The elegant stranger

Dear friends, today I'm presenting a photo printed on thick, rigid cardboard.

I can only place the date with certainty: 1883 to 1909. The photographer "Baubin" worked in Salonika. Did he have branches elsewhere?

I can read "mignon" and "portrait" on either side of an unknown word on the front at the bottom. It's an expensive photo for the time. So it could be someone close to me. Is it a brother of one of my great-grandparents?

On the reverse, "souvenir" is inscribed, along with "Baubin". French being the language of diplomacy and the arts, Monsieur Baubin was certainly French.
